Thirteen teams from Canada and the US East Coast converged to Kingston for the 2018 Eastern Canadians September 22-23. Three races sailed on Saturday with shifty winds coming from the Kingston shore line. It was a game of snakes and ladders, eyes out of the boat and avoiding holes out on the race course was key. The breeze eventually shut off during the third race of the day and a fleet decision was made to head ashore. After a postponement ashore, two sailed on Sunday in light, shifty winds from the Wolf Island. The Kingston Sea Breeze eventually came in during the second race. It was great practice looking ahead to the 2019 North Americans which will be in Kingston August 21-25th.
Local favourites Jeff Boyd and Martin ten Hove (CAN 8821) won the regatta by a single point over Brent Beninger and Martin Hicks (CAN 8735) from Ottawa. Marie Gendron and Nicolas Tosi from Ottawa (CAN 8600) finished in third.
Thanks to all the volunteers and to CORK for having the 505’s this year! Thanks to the American sailors for making the trip up north
