Toronto Regatta Report – 2014

Was this regatta the Eastern Canadian Championships?  Was it the Ontario Championships?……Awhh screw it.  Who cares, let’s just get together and go sailing and then come back, put your feet up, suck back a few beers and then chase that with a big steak dinner.  What could be better?

Folks, this happens every year in Toronto and you are all missing out.  Saturday was fantastic.  The forecast was not great but the thermal kicked in and the boats were always moving.  None of the downwinds were miserable and the boats always had power.

Sunday had to be blown off but the RC had the sense to not make us suffer and so we simply carried on with the banquet and worked on the beer cache from the night before; an assortment of fine craft beers.

In the end, we managed to get a full series completed and that was 6 races.  Once again, the RC had the wisdom to race us hard all day Saturday because they could not guarantee wind on the Sunday and so all was good.  No waiting around between races.

I have been doing this regatta for the last 5 years and the whole club is starting to become family.  That is just the people they are.  A cute little club house, the best launching facility you can think of and a very welcoming group of keen Contender sailors that love 505s.

Lastly, I would be remiss by not mentioning that Angus Ross beat the formidable Gesings.  Tight racing for all.  Also, young Andrew Gesing sailed in Mike Agrell’s boat with one of our newest 505 boat owners, Gordie Budning, who just purchased and is fixing up a “vintage” Parker.

That is a wrap for the season and can’t wait till next year.
